It is that time of year again, the anxiously awaited “Kayak Angler’s Choice Awards”. Of course these awards generate a lot of enthusiasm because it is the only kayak fishing specific awards to date. These awards are an important way in which products, anglers, videos, forums, etc. get formal recognition by the community, as it is they who make the nominations and vote.

Every year these awards generate not only enthusiasm but also some critics. No doubt this year will be no different and we can expect to see some negative and sometimes angry comments about the awards. There is one thing that can be said of the kayak fishing community, it is passionate!

A common complaint from the critics is that “X” angler or “X” product did not get recognized. The thing that is important to keep in mind is that the nominations and votes come from the kayak fishing community. If someone or some thing did not get recognized, that we believe should have, it is nobody’s fault but our own. The interesting thing is that it has been proven numerous times that “John Doe” will complain that “X” product or “X” angler did not get recognized but this product or this angler was never nominated. This means that John Doe never nominated either. So, whose fault is it? In my opinion, it’s John Doe’s.

As the time of the Kayak Angler’s Choice Awards draws near, I would like to invite everyone to make nominations and to place your votes. This will ensure the success of these important awards. If everyone participates, even those who have complaints, maybe we all can share in the enthusiasm that these awards bring.

Shane has been kayak fishing since 2009 and is passionate about it. Inshore saltwater kayak fishing is his addiction of choice, however, he enjoys the occasional offshore and freshwater trip as well. He mainly fishes the inshore lakes, bayous, and marshes of Southwest Louisiana but does venture into other territories. Shane is a member of the Hobie Fishing Team and holds Pro Staff positions with YakAngler, Lucid Fishing, and Ship To Shore Co. He was also the founding president of the Lake Charles Kayak Fishing Club. "My simple goal for this blog is to promote kayak fishing as it is something I love. I will post articles, reviews, videos, photos, and basically all things kayak fishing." ~Shane [Shane Coleman] (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-2NDpawIFmAk/VXTdW7z-51I/AAAAAAAABBk/bENRfktWrpA/s539-no/df12fc81-bf77-4b88-8326-f65980b08dca)
